What Food is Your MINI?

by Laura Rettig

I regret to inform everyone that this event has been cancelled. WesleyLife was hoping to get at least 25 people participating to make the event worthwhile. Since that didn’t happen it has been cancelled. This event may be resurrected next year so keep those ideas and materials handy.
I apologize, as does WesleyLife, to those of you who have put in the time and effort to prepare

More details to follow via email. (Not receiving our emails? Sign up using the link in the right column!)

After lunch in Bethany (make it light – hills aren’t good for the stomach!) we’ll meet in the Wal-Mart parking lot and begin the drive at noon. Porsche Club Poker Run – April 9

POKER RALLY
The Schonesland Region of the Porsche Club of America has invited us and the local BMW Club to join them on a Charity Poker Run in and around the Des Moines metro area on Saturday, April 9th. It’s a morning through lunch event.

If you’ve not done one before, a Poker Run is a driving tour with a number of stops. At each stop (usually a place of interest to we car-minded folk), each participant draws a card. Before long, everyone’s got a full hand, and at a final meeting place we all show our hands, have lunch, and the holder of the high hand wins a prize.

Participants “buy in” to the event, and proceeds from the event go to charity. In this case, we’ll be supporting the Major Ben Follansbee Pets for Vets Memorial Fund. For more information on this very worthy cause here’s a link.

The Poker Run will begin at 10:00 AM from Bierbaum Electric, 26416 289th Place, Adel, IA. The ending point is Wellman’s Pub and Rooftop in West Glen off Mills Civic Parkway in West Des Moines and we should roll in there a little after noon. The ‘buy in’ is $10 per participant.

Let’s descend on the Porsche Club en masse! We’ll need to be there before 10:00 AM to sign in, get our wristbands and instructions. So let’s gather at MINI of Des Moines around 8:45 or 9:00 AM and plan to depart by 9:15 AM. Should be a 15-20 minute motor down Hickman to our starting point.

Please RSVP via email or on Facebook so we can give our hosts an estimate of how many to expect. Let’s join the Porsche Club for a fun day of motoring and give our support to this charity helping our Vets. We all know how pets can alter our lives for the better!

Third Annual Photo Scavenger Hunt – April 23

photoscavCome join us for our 3rd Annual Photo Scavenger Hunt on Saturday April 23rd.  You don’t want to miss this event.  It’s nothing but craziness.

The fun begins at MINI of Des Moines (MODM).  Grab your co-pilot/photographer/motoring buddy and be there no later than 1:45 PM when we meet up with Jeremy Moyle for the driver’s meeting.  After getting the details for our adventurous afternoon we’ll be cut loose to conquer our quest.  With a strict 2 hour time limit you may want to plan on parking in a strategic place for a fast getaway!

To give you an idea of what you may expect and I say, may, because who knows what Jeremy has come up with this year and what new twists he’s thought up.  In the past we were given a list of phrases with one word missing.  Our job was to not only figure out the missing word but then go photograph that word on any sign, building, etc that we can find.  When you have all the answers, or when the clock runs out, motor back to MODM.  There is a strict 2 hour time limit; out at 2PM, in by 4PM, so keep a watchful eye on the clock.  Upon return to MODM, Jeremy and crew will tally the results to see who comes out on top and wins the prize.

Here’s an example from the past:  Pillsbury Doughboy – Poppin ______
E.g., Fill in the blank and then take a picture of a Subway sign with the word Fresh in your picture.

Be sure to RSVP via email or Facebook.  Our host will need to know how many ‘lists’ to print.  So charge up those cameras, phones, or whatever photo apparatus you’ll be using and join us.

Jake is organizing a bowling outing/meeting for Saturday February 20. This will also be our February Members’ Meeting and we do have some news so even if you don’t want to bowl please stop by and join us. Please RSVP via our Facebook page with the number of those that will be bowling. It will cost around $5.50 per game per person. If our party is 20 or more, we don’t pay for shoes.  We’ll bowl 2 games, so roughly $11 a person.
