MINIs Take The Chili King!

This Drive In Run isn’t for movies; it’s for FOOD as we take over the iconic George the Chili King on August 29.The Chili King has been a Des Moines staple since 1952 and is the last remaining classic car hop drive-in in the metro. In the 50’s and 60’s it was the epicenter of the hot rod scene in Des Moines and more recently was featured on the Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” with host Guy Fieri getting one on one with George himself.  You can view the episode at http://www.foodnetwork.com/shows/diners-drive-ins-and-dives/episodes/oldies-but-goodies . We’ll gather at 6:00 PM and plan on filling the drive in slots with MINIs! Last year we had 38 MINIs, including some that just stopped in because they saw us having fun. This should be a fun evening for socializing and basking in the vintage vibe. We won’t need the radios, just drop in, but please RSVP via Facebook or email to Laura no later than Midnight, Saturday, August 25th so we can give George a “heads up”.

WHEN: Wednesday August 29, 6:00PM
WHERE: 5722 Hickman Road (SE Corner of Hickman, Merle Hay and Merklin Way)

August 16 Ice Cream Drive

304 W 2nd St, Prairie City, IA 50228

Goldie’s…it’s tradition, right? We’ll let you all know the flavor of the week as we near the date. Southeast Polk High School is a good place to meet. No city congestion to get through. We’ll head out at 6:30 pm.

Bring your 2 ways and please RSVP via Facebook or email to Laura no later than Midnight, Monday, August 13th. Don’t forget our rain date (jump to the following Thursday)  as although Goldie’s does have indoor seating room I’m not sure they could accommodate all of us.

7th Annual Iowa/Missouri Drive – June 2

For the seventh year the Central Iowa MINI Club will join with the Kansas City MINI Enthusiasts on Saturday June 2nd for an extended drive on some scenic, hilly and twisty two lane roads in Northern Missouri and Southern Iowa.
Our group will meet at the Norwalk High School parking lot, 1201 North Avenue, for an 8:30 a.m. departure.

The convoy will be heading out from Norwalk to meet up with our route master James Flowers and the Kansas City MINI Enthusiasts (KCME) at 11 AM in the parking lot of the historic Toot-Toot restaurant, 2905 Miller St (North side), Bethany MO (https://goo.gl/maps/GjwYCkncCQw). If the Toot-Toot is crowded with no room for us we’ll meet at bank just east of Toot-Toot on Miller St (also on north side).

After intros, map disbursements and a little chit chat, we’ll head for lunch. There’s the Toot-Toot, Sonic, Dairy Queen, KFC, McDonald’s & Subway all on Miller St.

Around noon we’ll line up in on the east side of the Wal-Mart parking lot (http://goo.gl/maps/LqqCz). There’s a FAST and a SLOW group so join the appropriate line – fast on the left, slow on the right. We’ll start the drive from Wal-Mart around 12:15 and end up somewhere for ice cream. If you need to bug out early don’t forget the MINI behind is following you so please make your intentions known, then pull over, let everyone pass, and go on your merry way.

Two important things…RSVP via Facebook or email to Laura, and bring your fully charged FRS/GMRS 2 way radios. We’ll disclose the channel in Bethany to remain in stealth mode. It’s a fun fun drive you won’t want to miss!

Motoring Adventure Through The Iowa Countryside

On Saturday May 5th Jeff Geist is going to lead us on an exciting run through the Iowa countryside. The latest plan is that we’ll gather at the Norwalk High School (1201 North Ave. in Norwalk) in time for an 8:15 am departure before setting off on an all day drive. We’ll be stopping for lunch in Eldon and finishing around 2-3 pm at Danes Dairy in Iowa City. Those who came out in miserable weather for last year’s Fall Color Tour may recognize some of the roads but it should be a lot more fun with better weather! Jeff also promises some interesting two lane roads for the drive back to the Metro for those who don’t want to just beeline on the Interstate. Details are still being worked out but get it on your calendar, dig out your FRS/GMRS radios, and plan on a full day of motoring fun.

Don’t forget to RSVP via our Facebook group or by email to Laura!

Fifth Annual Detail Day

Ready to get your MINI spruced up for Spring? No worries about the weather because we’ll be taking over the MINI of Des Moines service area indoors on Saturday April 7th starting at 9:00 am!

You can have your MINI run thru the car wash and then spruce it up, inside and out, inside a warm, dry place. There will be vacuums available for use but bring your own cleaning supplies, rags, and whatever you use.

Already clean? Think it’s still too early? Come out anyway and hang out with your Central Iowa MINI Club friends!

RSVP’s are always appreciated. Hope you can join us!

Who’s ready? Skills or not, everyone can join in the fun.
$10 per person gets you 2 hours of bowling and shoe rental.

There’s more in store so come enjoy some excellent food and fun with fellow MINIacs. Club merchandise will be available.
